Oroklini, also written Voroklini, has two sides. Down on the coast, the Dhekelia road runs past the hotels, the beach and the seafront restaurants. Up the hill, the old village has its square, its tavernas and its bakery. For fish by the sea, come to Mer Bleue on the seafront. For the rest, here is where locals eat.

Our pick for fish by the sea

Mer Bleue, Oroklini seafront. A family run fish tavern since 2004 and, as far as we know, the only dedicated fish tavern right on the Oroklini seafront. Terrace tables a few steps from the water, fresh fish from the daily display, a fish meze at 33 euro a head for two or more, grills and sushi. Open every day, 9:00 to 23:00. See the menu or book a table.

On the seafront

Mer Bleue

We have cooked on this stretch of sand since 2004. The fish comes in fresh every morning and goes on the display, so you pick your own and pay by the kilo, or leave it to the kitchen with the fish meze: about eleven plates that arrive one after another, from dips and fried baby prawns to octopus, fish of the day and grilled sea bream. A grilled sea bream on its own is about 19 euro and grilled octopus 24. There is a children's menu at 7 euro, a full sushi menu, and steaks for anyone who does not eat fish. The kitchen opens at 9:00 for coffee and breakfast and serves until 22:00.

Regatta All Day

A beach bar and all day restaurant on Yanathes beach, the Blue Flag beach further east along the promenade.

LoveSea Kiosk

A beach kiosk and café on the sand along the Dhekelia road, for a coffee or a cold drink between swims.

Taj Mahal

An Indian restaurant on the tourist strip off the Dhekelia road, if you want a change from Cypriot food.

In the village

Voreas

A meze taverna in a traditional mud brick house on the village square.

Alki Sport Grill Bar

A grill and sports bar in the village, where locals watch the match.

By the lake

Restolake

A café restaurant with pizza next to Oroklini Lake, with a playground for children. The lake is a Natura 2000 wetland where flamingos spend the winter, and our guide to flamingos in Larnaca explains when to see them. From the lake, Mer Bleue is about a kilometre down the hill on the seafront.

A day in Oroklini

Start with the flamingo hide at the lake in the morning, swim at the beach, then sit down for a long fish lunch on the water at Mer Bleue. If you are staying on the coast road, our guide to how far each hotel is from us gives walking times, and our Oroklini Beach guide covers the swimming and the walk along the bay.
