In Larnaca you can eat by the sea in three ways: on the sand at Mackenzie, along the Finikoudes promenade, or on the Oroklini seafront ten minutes east of the centre. We run Mer Bleue there, a family run fish tavern with terrace tables a few steps from the water, open every day from 9:00 to 23:00.
By the sea can mean very different things in a seaside town. A table on the sand, a terrace across a promenade and a table in front of the fishing boats all count, and each gives you a different evening. This guide sorts the Larnaca coast by where your table sits, so you can pick the evening you want.
Our pick for a table at the water
Mer Bleue, Oroklini seafront. A family run fish tavern since 2004, with terrace tables a few steps from the water. Fresh fish from the daily display, a fish meze at 33 euro a head for two or more, grills and sushi. Open every day, 9:00 to 23:00. See the menu or book a table.
Three stretches of coast, side by side
| Mackenzie | Finikoudes | Oroklini | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where | About 3 km south of the centre, next to the airport | The town seafront, below the palm promenade | About ten minutes east of the centre, on the Dhekelia road |
| Your table | On or beside the sand, or in front of the fishing boats at the small harbour | On a terrace along the promenade and the marina | On a terrace a few steps from the water |
| What you hear | Beach bars, music and planes coming in low | The town, busy and never quite empty in summer | The sound of the water, on a quieter stretch of coast |
| Getting there | Paid municipal car park at the beach | Several car parks, free spaces hard to find in summer, buses and taxis nearby | By car along the Dhekelia road, or on foot from the hotels on the strip |
| Good for | Bars, music, a meal before a flight | A first night in town and a stroll after dinner, no car needed | A long fish lunch or a quiet dinner by the water |
Mackenzie: on the sand or beside the boats
Mackenzie is the classic strip, about three kilometres south of the centre and next to the airport runway, with planes coming in low over the beach. Zakos Beach sits along the sand, an easy choice for a plate of grilled fish with your feet near the water. Psarolimano, by the small fishing harbour, sits in front of the boats and has a long reputation for fresh fish and a generous fish meze.
Since December 2025 the municipal car park at the beach is paid: the first 30 minutes are free, then 2.50 euro for up to three hours or 4 euro for up to seven, and it is free from 5:00 to 10:00.
Finikoudes: across the promenade
Finikoudes is the palm lined promenade in the middle of town, with the medieval castle at one end and the marina at the other. Zephyros, set between Mackenzie and Finikoudes, has a terrace looking out at the marina and is well regarded for grilled fish and seafood. You can walk in from the old town without a car. The seafront stays busy through the summer, so book ahead for a weekend.
Oroklini: a few steps from the water
Head east for about ten minutes and the coast quietens. Mer Bleue sits right on the Oroklini shoreline, with terrace tables a few steps from the waterline. We have cooked here since 2004. The bay faces east, so on a clear night the moon rises out of the sea in front of the terrace.
If you are staying on the Dhekelia road, you can walk over. The Radisson Beach Resort is about 200 metres away, and our guide to how far each hotel is from us lists the others.
How to check a table is on the water
- Ask whether the table is on the water side of the terrace, not behind a road or a car park.
- Look for photos taken from a table, not only of the building.
- Ask what came in that morning, and for the price per kilo before you order whole fish.
- Book weekend lunch and dinner in summer, and ask for the terrace when you do.
What a meal by the sea costs at Mer Bleue
A grilled sea bream is about 19 euro, sea bass 20 and red mullet 24. Larger fish from the display are priced by the kilo. The fish meze is 33 euro a head for two or more, about eleven plates. There is a children's menu at 7 euro and a full sushi menu. The kitchen opens at 9:00 and serves until 22:00. Everything is on the menu.
